Forgive My Fins by Tera Lynn Childs

Title: Forgive My Fins
Author: Tera Lynn Childs
Published: May 2010
Source: Won in contest
Synopsis from Goodreads:
Lily Sanderson has a secret, and it’s not that she has a huge crush on gorgeous swimming god Brody Bennett, who makes her heart beat flipper-fast. Unrequited love is hard enough when you’re a normal teenage girl, but when you’re half human, half mermaid like Lily, there’s no such thing as a simple crush.

Lily’s mermaid identity is a secret that can’t get out, since she’s not just any mermaid – she’s a Thalassinian princess. When Lily found out three years ago that her mother was actually a human, she finally realized why she didn’t feel quite at home in Thalassinia, and she’s been living on land and going to Seaview high school ever since, hoping to find where she truly belongs. Sure, land has its problems – like her obnoxious, biker boy neighbor Quince Fletcher – but it has that one major perk – Brody. The problem is, mermaids aren’t really the casual dating type – when they “bond,” it’s for life.

When Lily’s attempt to win Brody’s love leads to a tsunami-sized case of mistaken identity, she is in for a tidal wave of relationship drama, and she finds out, quick as a tailfin flick, that happily-ever-after never sails quite as smoothly as you planned.

Forgive My Fins was a perfect summer read! This is the first book that I've read about mermaids, and I really enjoyed it! It was a lot different than I thought it would be but in a good way. I love how it wasn't about Lily trying to adjust to human life, or someone finding out her secret. It was a book about a girl who just so happened to be a mermaid, and it was great.

Ahhh, I loved Quince. Hands down my favorite character. And the rest of the characters were great too! Strangely the one that I liked the least was Lily herself. I just thought that she was a bit too...thick sometimes. But that worked for the story in the end. The end! I loved loved loved the last chapter, but then the Epilogue gives you a kick in the butt.

Everything about this book was just cute and light. I loved the way that Tera Lynn Childs dealt with Lily being a mermaid. She just was. There was no introduction, she was just explaining things as she went, which suited me fine. And the whole underwater world was fantastic. I wish that I could go and visit there for a vacation, it sounded so beautiful.

Basically, I loved this book. If you're looking for something light and fun, this is the book for you!
